About Smith Lake

Lewis Smith Lake

The Lewis Smith Lake on the Sipsey fork of the Warrior River has over 500 miles of shoreline for camping, and 21,000 acres of clear water for sport fishing, skiing, and boating. Smith Lake draws campers, fishermen and recreational boaters from all over the Southeast. It is located midway between Birmingham and Huntsville, and is nestled among the pastures and rolling hills of northern Alabama.  Smith Lake serves as a perfect get away for individuals in both metro areas.

Fish Species

Species that can be found in Smith Lake include: Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, White Bass, Striped Bass (saltwater and hybrid), Black Crappie, White Crappie, Bluegill, Longear Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish. Smith Lake is considered to be an excellent fishing lake.  Each year many champion fishing tournaments are held here.  In fact, five world fishing records have been officially recorded on Smith Lake.
